Global Partnerships and International Expertise Support the Development of Tax System in the Sultanate of Oman

Today is the launch of the Tax Seminar 2025, which is held under the patronage of H.E. Nasser bin Khamis Al Jashmi, Chairman of the Tax Authority in Muscat. The seminar was attended by a distinguished group of experts specializing in the tax field, policymakers, financial leaders, and representatives from KPMG, who is strategic partner of the seminar.

In the opening speech, Mr. Abdulrahman bin Abdul Hamid Al-Sayegh, Acting Head of the Institutional Excellence Section at the Tax Authority, emphasized the pivotal role played by the Tax Authority in achieving the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, particularly concerning economic diversification and the enhancement of financial sustainability. He pointed out that the Tax Authority attaches paramount importance to strengthen bridges of trust with taxpayers, which has positively reflected on enhancing its position in terms of transparency and efficiency in managing the tax system.

A series of keynote working papers that deeply addressed aspects of the comprehensive development in the Tax Authority's system, in addition to an extensive discussion of several important tax topics were presented in the seminar. The working papers reviewed the most prominent structural changes implemented within the Tax Authority to enhance operational efficiency, the continuous improvements in electronic services provided to facilitate taxpayer compliance, and the new strategic initiatives launched. The pivotal role of the Tax Authority in strengthening cooperation with international organizations concerned with tax matters and the exchange of experiences and best practices was also emphasized.

Furthermore, specialized experts from KPMG showed detailed presentations that addressed the latest developments in transfer pricing and the implementation of Value Added Tax (VAT) in the Sultanate of Oman, as well as an in-depth review of the most prominent regional tax developments and their potential impacts.
