Press Release: Tax Authority Media Briefing 2026

In line with the strategic objectives of the Tax Authority to strengthen partnerships with national media, and as part of its commitment to provide an effective platform for information exchange, building tax awareness, and enhancing trust between the community and government institutions; the Tax Authority held its first media briefing on Thursday, 5th February, 2026 at Al Wahat Club in Muscat Governorate.
The Chairman of the Tax Authority, H.E. Nasser Al Jashmi opened the meeting with a welcoming speech, in which he emphasized the vital role of the media as a key partner in delivering tax messages to the community. He noted that enhancing transparency and maintaining continuous communication are two essential pillars for raising tax awareness and establishing a culture of voluntary compliance. In this regard, His Excellency ensures that taxes are considered vital financial tools that strengthen fiscal sustainability and help achieve a balanced state budget, in addition to their role in funding public services, supporting social protection programs, and implementing infrastructure projects.
Mr. Said Al Shanfari, D.G of Tax Policy General Directorate reviewed an overview of the tax system in the Sultanate of Oman and the Tax Authority's strategy, clarifying its alignment with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040. He highlighted the ongoing efforts to enhance performance and improve the services provided by the Tax Authority to taxpayers. Furthermore, Mr. Mahmoud Al Rabani, D.G of Taxpayer Services and Operation General Directorate addressed the Tax Authority's key achievements during 2025, where The Tax Authority attained high performance indicators in tax revenue targets within the estimated current revenues of the State's Administrative Apparatus units for 2025, which were valued at approximately 1.373 OMR billion. Regarding tax compliance, the number of tax returns submitted during 2025 reached approximately 353,000, representing a 37% growth compared to 2024. These results reflect improved voluntary compliance and the effectiveness of tax awareness initiatives.
Besides, the meeting featured several developments in tax policies at both the local and international levels, including legislative reforms, anti-tax evasion practices and their role in promoting tax fairness, protecting state financial resources, and ensuring the sustainability of public revenue to support the achievement of economic and developmental goals.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Chairman of the Tax Authority affirmed the pivotal role played by the media in supporting tax awareness efforts. He expressed his anticipation for continued constructive cooperation with various media institutions to professionally and responsibly convey the tax message, and ultimately strengthen community trust in public policies and state institutions.
