As part of the Tax Authority's efforts to enhance tax awareness among entrepreneurs, it, in cooperation with the Entrepreneurship Center of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEs), organized a specialized introductory seminar on 'Taxes in the Sultanate of Oman' at the Youth Center in Muscat Grand Mall. The seminar targeted owners of small and medium enterprises who registered with the entrepreneurship centers.
This seminar aims to empower entrepreneurs to understand the tax business environment in the Sultanate of Oman, and to equip them with the necessary knowledge to ensure voluntary compliance with laws, which as a result assures the sustainability and growth of their projects. The seminar showed the tax system in the Sultanate of Oman, covering several key themes: an introduction to the types of taxes applied in the Sultanate of Oman and their executive regulations, including Corporate Income Tax, Value-Added Tax (VAT), and Excise Tax; the importance of tax compliance alongside an explanation of tax registration procedures and the mechanism for filing periodic returns; and an introduction to the obligations and rights of taxpayers in accordance with the laws and regulations in force in the country.
In conclusion, a discussion session was opened to answer inquiries regarding the tax challenges facing startups and small enterprises, as well as highlight the importance of utilizing the digital services provided by the Tax Authority to facilitate transactions. Seminar participants emphasized that such initiatives directly contribute to simplifying various tax concepts, and help entrepreneurs make informed decisions that support the stability of their projects in the local market and protect them from any penalties resulting from a lack of awareness of tax requirements.
